National Night Out
Please join your neighhbors and attend National Night Out at the Fairfax Station Swim & Tennis Club, 6-9 p.m., Tuesday, August 2nd. National Night Out occurs throughout the United States on the second Tuesday in August each year, and is largely designed for Communities to show their support for anti-crime programs and the local police officers who protect and serve them. Our District Supervisor will attend later in the event and several Fairfax County police officers also are expected to attend.
Free pizza and beverages will be available. Children are welcome. The event will be cancelled in the event of rain and will not be rescheduled. For those residents attending after dark, please leave your outside lights on and carry a flashlight to and from the event. This is a National Night Out custom.
Sponsored by your Neighborhood Watch, with the support of the FSHOA Board and the Club.
Protect yourself and your property
Parts of Fairfax County are experiencing a string of burglaries and robberies that began in mid-August. Follow this link to view a letter from Supervisor Pat Herrity and the Fairfax County police.
Please watch your neighbors’ homes during vacation
I just had a woman call me, after she had reported this to the police, about a man who appeared at her door and questioned her elderly mother about whether the kids were home, and whether the owners were home. He proceeded to speak to her in Spanish (good Spanish, but not a native speaker) when he detected that was her preferred language. He warned her that there were bogus meter readers in the neighborhood, and not to let them in, as they were robbing people. He then asked if the neighbors across the street were home, and she volunteered "no." This happened on Patrick O'Rourke; the man in question was "white", and in his 40's.
Please share this information with your neighbors, and keep an eye on homes you know may be unoccupied during the holidays. If you witness anything like this, please also report it to the non-emergency number for the police ( 703-691-2131), as it will increase their presence in our neighborhood.
